Job description
We are looking for a senior Health Economist to act as the designated technical lead on projects, working autonomously and delivering evidence-based and accurate content consistently to a high standard, across a varied range of therapeutic areas and a breadth of deliverables within the King’s Technology Evaluation Centre (KiTEC), including but not limited to:  
 
•         NHS cost-effectiveness and budget impact models 
•         Early cost-effectiveness and budget impact models 
•         Health technology assessment submissions 
•         Model validation (internal or external) 
•         Deep understanding of statistical analyses required for health economics (survival analysis, utility analysis) 
•         Publications 
 
The role will largely be based within the School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences. The successful candidate will supervise a small team of Health Economists within KiTEC.
 
The job provides an opportunity to lead inputs in cost analyses, economic evaluations alongside trials, modelling, health technology assessment of medical devices and other large studies. The post will play a pivotal role in helping define innovative models and evaluation to facilitate the development of valuable AI technologies and to maximise their impact for patients and the healthcare economy.

This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract until 31 July 2024

Key responsibilities
Key Responsibilities and Objectives:  
•         Desk-based research (including oversight of junior team members conducting this work) 
•         Leading on appropriate aspects of projects, including the intellectual design, timeline development and execution, including timely communication with colleagues and clients, leading specific aspects of client meetings or the entire meeting, note-taking and execution of relevant actions 
•         Leading or participating in expert knowledge elicitation activities, e.g. interviews., advisory boards, workshops 
•         Adhering to internal and client quality control measures and taking personal responsibility for the quality of your work.  
•         Ensure appropriate quality control of junior colleagues’ work 
•         Effectively seeking, managing and incorporating input from other team members  
•         Advising on the strategic direction/shaping of speciality deliverables to ensure these are ‘fit for purpose’ and meet client objectives 
•         Formal project management of appropriate health economic or multidisciplinary projects 
•         Within health economics, leading discussions with colleagues and clients, showing the authority and confidence in your speciality knowledge and wider understanding of the market access environment and health care systems of relevance to your speciality 
•         Fostering and maintaining existing client relationships 
•         Contributing to or leading business development activities within health economics, such as: 
•         Conduct in-depth reviews of economic models submitted by manufacturers  
•         Conduct in-depth reviews of other economic evidence (e.g. systematic reviews) submitted by manufacturers or found in literature. 
•         Develop new economic models if and when required.  
•         Conduct and report on new systematic reviews of economic evidence, if and when required. 
•         Contribute to the design of economic evaluations of healthcare interventions. 
•         Development, testing and implementation of methods for the collection of economic data 
•         Statistical analysis of economic data 
•         Writing up results of evaluations for reports to funders  
•         Contribute to the dissemination of scientific results by means of writing or contributing to papers for publication, presenting orally and in poster form at internal and external meetings, seminars and conferences 
Skills, knowledge, and experience
Essential 
1.       PhD degree in health economics and publications in relevant area         
2.       Good knowledge of economic evaluation methods            
3.       Good quantitative/statistical skills            
4.       Good understanding of modelling approaches used by health economists and economic evaluation methods                
5.       Excellent written communication skills – ability to write coherently about a range of topics and to target writing to a range of audiences
6.       Knowledge of the healthcare system in the UK    
7.       Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team           
8.       Experience of databases and spreadsheets and statistical/ econometric packages (e.g. R, SPSS, STATA)  
9.       Ability to work without close supervision, plan and prioritise workload     
 
Desirable
1.       Knowledge and understanding of a wide variety of medical device – related concepts
2.       Experience of working in NHS based clinical trials
