Personal Assistants/ Support Workers in IP29 – 4533 – Suffolk Independent Living – Bury St. Edmunds

Personal Assistants/ Support Workers required to support a young lady and her dog to to live their best lives. You must be friendly but professional, as well as a confident diver. Experience is preferred but not essential.

About Me

I became disabled in 2015 after a life changing injury at work, however I am still very much a normal 30 something year old who enjoys going out, having my hair and nails done etc. I can however become very unwell very quickly. I live with my dog and cat for company. I strive to be as independent as I can be and need those around me to understand I can make my own decisions and do not want to be looked after. I am slowly but surely improving and becoming more mobile and more independent.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

· Walking a young and lively dog several miles a shift

· Pushing a manual wheelchair as require

· Housework

· Light gardening

· Assistance with shopping

· Driving to and from personal and medical appointments

· Calling for assistance in an emergency

You must be:

· Friendly but professional

· Flexible with when you can work (you will be required to work evenings and weekends when required)

· Physically able to walk several miles

· Able to push a manual wheelchair

· Reliable

· Able to keep calm during medical emergencies

· A confident driver (you will be required to drive my car in Central London)

· Able to have a laugh and not be offended too easily

Hours and contract

There are 23 hours available, I am looking for two Personal Assistants to join my team who will share these hours and also provide cover as required. The hours will be discussed and agreed with potential candidates, but as an example I could offer one contract at 15 hours per week, and another contract at 8 hours per week. Please state your availability on your application form.

Terms and Conditions

Pay Rates:

£13.50ph Monday – Friday, £14.50ph Evenings and Weekends, £27ph on Bank Holidays

Annual Leave

The annual holiday entitlement for this position will be equivalent to the work which would normally be done during 5.6 consecutive weeks.

Annual Leave to be planned and agreed in advance.

Background Checks

A satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check is required for this position.

If your application is successful, you will be required to provide details of two referees, one of which must be your current or most recent employer, or character references if you have not been employed.


You will be reimbursed for any expenses incurred during the role.

Probationary Period

You will be required to work a successful probationary period of 3 months before permanent employment can be confirmed
